Sometimes a weekend getaway might merely involve hanging out, relaxing, and “taking it slow” by enjoying what comes along. Our latest visit to Paducah was just that—a relaxing and fun time in which we hung out at our favorite spots, discovered a new gem in downtown, and made plenty of notes for future trips to this charming city on the Ohio River.

Paducah's riverfront offers the perfect spot to wind down and take it slow.
Over the years, we’ve made many treks to Paducah to just “bum around” downtown, but this year we traveled in late August to catch WAR in concert at The Carson Center for The Performing Arts. The early 1970s funk, rock, and soul band was on their 50th Anniversary Tour, and the show was fantastic, featuring those timeless hits such as, “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “The Cisco Kid,” and, of course, “Low Rider.” The Carson Center is a true jewel—a beautiful venue with great seating and acoustics.

Paducah's state-of-the-art performing arts center has been admired by audiences and performers alike.
We did our own slow ridin’ throughout the weekend with a couple of trips to Paducah Beer Werks, our favorite spot, lunch at Kirchhoff’s Deli, where we shared a delicious handmade Cuban, and poked our heads inside Hooper’s Outdoor Center, since we were staying upstairs in The W on Broadway.

Enjoy a Cuban Sandwich from Kirchhoff's Deli, a staple Paducah restaurant.
As I wrote last year for Paducah Creative City (“We Love Paducah!”), we always feel comfortable and at home when we stay in Paducah, and this latest visit reminded us how much we care for the city and the people who make it so special.
Sometimes you just have to “take it slow” to enjoy what comes along.
