Kentucky Life, hosted by Dave Shuffett, features an evening of live performances at the Maiden Alley Cinema in Paducah, the town of Salyersville, a girl who created a knitting project for residents of Joplin, Missouri, and the vineyards of CCC Trail Winery in Morehead.
As part of Kentucky Life’s focus this season on homegrown music and musical heritage, this program showcases Paducah’s vibrant music scene with an evening of sold-out performances at the Maiden Alley Cinema. The segment features performances from The Wheelhouse Rousters, the Solid Rock’it Boosters, and J.D. Wilkes & The Dirt Daubers.
In 2011, an EF5 tornado leveled the Missouri town of Joplin. In Campbellsville, 600 miles away, Cee Cee Creech, who was nine years old at the time, saw television reports and decided that she wanted to do something to help. Shuffett talks to Creech about her project, “Elephants Remember Joplin,” which received media attention and some high-profile supporters, in addition to others who began knitting the little elephants and other creatures.
Also in this program, Shuffett and his canine sidekick Toby explore the vineyards of CCC Trail Winery in the hills above Morehead. The vineyard has produced some award-winning wines, and Shuffett talks to owner and winemaker Jim Ross, who, in addition to also being the chef for Celebrations Café at the winery, runs Journey’s End Lodge in Salt Lick and is also an emergency room physician. In addition, the Our Town segment features Salyersville, where the program checks on recovery efforts one year after the 2012 spring tornado.
