The leather artisans of Round Oak Leather began developing their skills by making custom fit sandals and lace handbags in the late 1960s and 1970s. From 1973-83, the artisans made specialty costumes, flashy leather goods and guitar straps for the biggest stars at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.
In 1985, artisans began reproducing 19th century museum artifacts for the re-enacting community, movie and television props industry and contracting work for museums.
Under the name Dixie Leather Works, these reproductions have gained worldwide acclaim. Supplying movie props for television, documentaries and theatre, the name continues to expand with more than 40 major motion pictures so far. In 1999, Round Oak Leather added a new contemporary line of ladies handbags, business accessories, home decor and guitar straps; all one of a kind original designs.
Now located in the Lower Town Arts District, Round Oak Leather continues to take an artistic approach to a time tested craft while using proven techniques, tools and machines, many of which are now antique.
