The Homeplace honors the traditional craft of quilting by hosting a Quilting Bee. In the 1850s quilting bees were an excellent way for women in rural areas to get together and socialize while getting some very important work done. Pick up a needle and thimble and add a few stitches to the quilts yourself! If stitching isn't your cup of tea you can also help the ladies card fibers from the farm for quilt batting. The weekend will include a display of quilts reproduced at the Homeplace and prized local antique quilts from the Homeplace collection. Discover the 1850 era quilting frames that quilts were stretched on. Learn how to sew quilt tops "on your fingers". Take home popular 1850s quilt patterns to start your own heirloom quilt. Children can quilt on the special children's quilt and create their own quilt pattern.
