Local sculptor Michael Terra, an artisit known for the Empty Bowls Project, is having a one man show “Strange New Works” at the Hotel 1857 in downtown Paducah for the months of September and October.
Sculpting in language is a tricky business... but that is exactly what Terra has been doing for the last twenty years or so. While many artists have used famous quotes, song lyrics or bible passages in their work, Terra relies completely on his own creative writing to engage the viewers in an intimate landscape.
The sculptures in this show are all hanging on the wall. There will be some collages (in three dimensions) made of antique parts all sequestered in the ancient drawers of old sewing machines. There will be trompe l’oeil postcards, made of stoneware clay, with original intimate messages addressed to both your past and your future. There will be single text poem scrolls hanging vertically like paintings... All works in this show will be available for sale.
Give yourself a treat and take some time to wander through this landscape and read, imagine and remember.
