MONO NO AWARE of Brooklyn, NY will present two filmmaking workshops at Paducah School of Art & Design October 28-29, 2016. Direct Filmmaking Workshop - Participants will learn to manipulate the surface of the film using a variety of camera-less filmmaking techniques to create an original experimental film on 16mm. Intensive workshop is designed to introducte, explore and mast the ability to articulate movement through tactile gesturing of this beautiful cinematic language. Super 8MM Filmmaking - Learn the art and craft of hand-making Super-8mm films on B/W or color reversal film. A hands-on class designed for the beginner that covers all aspects of Super-8mm filmmaking: cameras, angle, story, exposure, lighting, editing and projection. All films will be screened publicly at the opening night of the River's Edge International Film Festival at Maiden Alley Cinema, Thursday, November 3. Instructor Akiko Maruyama is a filmmaker and educator who uses 8mmfilm, 16mm film, handmade film, stop-motion animation and HD video. Inspired byJack Smith, Tony Oursler, and George Kuchar, her works arefictional/non-fictional portraits using experimental techniques.
