Overview

This workshop explores the construction and use of an extrusion-based ceramic or culinary 3D printer that can be integrated into existing studio practices. Each participant will begin by building their own DIY 3D printer from parts and an open-source knowledge base. They will then develop digital design strategies that allow for a return to working directly with clay, combining 3D printed parts with thrown, hand built and/or cast additions. Each participant will take home their own printer, providing the opportunity to integrate digital technologies into their studio practice and curricula.

Printer cost and clay fee is $575 in addition to tuition. The printer build size is approximately 20” in diameter and 40” tall.

Tuition is $490; supplies are additional.
