Creative Collaborations 2016

Famous for the award-winning Artist Relocation Program that prompted the colorful revitalization of its oldest residential neighborhood, Paducah is populated with working artists, students and artists-in-residence who add to the UNESCO Creative City's vibrant artistic landscape.

A new event series called Creative Collaborations provides an opportunity for the public, art lovers and art collectors to experience the creativity and diversity of Paducah's arts community in a variety of ways. The series of four events throughout 2016 aims to promote growth and awareness of local creative industry with events that are free to the public and will provide participants a unique art experience.

Creative Collaborations debuts two new events, New River Currents and Working Together: Collaborative Exhibition, and expands upon two existing events, the Lower Town Arts & Music Festival and Meet the Artists: A Celebration of Art & Community

New River Currents – Saturday, March 12 from  Noon-8 pm

Paducah’s rivers will be the inspiration for the art that will be exhibited in the galleries and studios of the Lower Town artists.  Each artist will be unveiling his or her interpretation of the theme in this first of its kind event in the Lower Town arts district.  Twenty of the Lower Town galleries and studios will be participating.

Lower Town Arts & Music Festival Open Studios – May 13-14

As the Lower Town Arts & Music Festival draws visitors to celebrate the cultural richness of western Kentucky, resident artists open their studios and galleries to promote the discovery of the working artists who call the historic neighborhood home year-round.

Working Together: Collaborative Exhibition – Thursday,  June 16 from  4-8 pm

This collaborative exhibition highlights the diversity and creativity of the Paducah art scene.  Lower Town artists will be selectively collaborating with other artists to create an exciting evening of art.  The artists may choose to jointly create new work, or work individually sharing a common theme or subject.

Meet the Artists: A Celebration of Art & Community – Thursday, September 15  4-8 pm

The second annual Meet the Artists event will take place this year in the Paducah School of Art & Design’s new 2D/Graphic Building (recently rehabilitated historic Kitchens Building).
