Paducah, KY - The American Quilter's Society presents AQS QuiltWeek® in Paducah, KY, from April 23 - 26, 2014. More than 30,000 people will converge on Quilt City USA to enjoy a week surrounded by the best in international quilt and textile artistry. More than 650 quilts will be on display across three locations, along with the largest quilter's merchant mall in Kentucky. This year, the American Quilter’s Society is also celebrating its 30th anniversary with a special display of three decades of Best in Show quilts at the National Quilt Museum.
AQS QuiltWeek presents quilters and fabric lovers with a chance to explore and enjoy the creativity of quilters from around the world. By bringing together over 350 booths in the merchant mall, more than 650 works of fiber art, eight special exhibits, and the leading instructors in quilting, AQS QuiltWeek offers quilters a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Paducah, Kentucky, named by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a UNESCO Creative City, rolls out the red carpet for thousands of quilters during QuiltWeek. Between the well-known Paducah Ambassadors, residents opening their homes to quilters, and restaurants offering special options, visitors experience hospitality that makes Paducah famous among quilters. Local businesses complete the experience for quilters by presenting AQS Sanctioned Events at the Yeiser Art Center, Rotary Club of Paducah, and National Quilt Museum.
AQS QuiltWeek will host a number of exciting exhibits including the international exhibit, Stich like an Egyptian, featuring 100 works of applique art, and the charitable quilt traveling exhibit, Quilted in Honor, dedicated to Operation Homefront. The high point of the show recognizes the artistry of today's quiltmakers, as over 400 works in the AQS Quilt Contest compete for more than $125,000 in cash awards. Entries come from 41 states and 10 countries.
