(Formerly River Heritage Museum.)
State of the art, interactive exhibits, including a flood and water show and 15-minute film, tell the story of the four rivers region. New pilothouse simulator allows users to pilot a towboat, pleasure watercraft, or Coast Guard buoy tender in various scenarios. View river traffic in front of the museum with “24-Hours on the River” exhibit.
The museum’s interactive, water-filled exhibits include a working model of a lock and dam. A dredging exhibit shows how the sediment of river bottoms is moved in order to improve navigational channels. The river habitats exhibit displays the various fish populations and aquatic species found in the local rivers.
The River Discovery Center, a Save America's Treasures project, is housed in Downtown’s oldest standing structure. The museum shop features a large selection of river books, educational toys and games, jewelry, clothing and nautical items.
